Gregg Rolie: Goin' Home
It was fantastic of course to play with a legend like Gregg, and to play such timeless, classic songs like Black Magic Woman, Evil Ways and Oye Como Va. What made it fun though, was how much room there was in the music for a guitarist… Santana of course was a guitar band! The combination of Gregg's blues-based B3, the rhythm backbone put down by bassist Gary Brown, percussionists Adrian Areas and Toby Borreros and on this gig, Santana's original drummer Michael Shrieve (sitting in for Ron Wikso) along with Wally Minko on piano and synth, was a dream to solo over... for as long as I wanted! One of the best bands I've ever played in!
